My time with LTL was absolutely amazing. I was welcomed and looked after from the start, my teachers were competent and encouraging, and I was given the opportunity to experience authentic Chinese culture.
Great school with amazing teachers! I have only been here for 6 weeks but under this time I've learnt more chinese than I did in one year in Sweden. The people working here are the most friendly people you can find so you never feel alone.
I spent 3 weeks at LTL with 4 hours of group classes everyday. I have done 2 semesters of language classes at my university in Germany before. The classes were really good and my two teachers highly motivated.
I was able to learn more Mandarin in four weeks than in six months back home. I absolutely loved my teachers and my homestay family. LTL is a highly professional and well run organisation. I'll be coming back :)
If you want to learn Chinese then LTL Mandarin School in Beijing is the best place. During my stay in Beijing I really had a great time, the teachers and all the staff are very professional and you can really improve your Chinese here.
The school as such is fascinating well organized. The service of a-z is not only smooth and comfortable, but at the same time friendly and highly qualified. The quality of teaching is unbeatable. Lessons are rich and incredibly well structured.
My time with LTL was absolutely amazing. I was welcomed and looked after from the start, my teachers were competent and encouraging, and I was given the opportunity to experience authentic Chinese culture. LTL Mandarin School helps you integrate with local friends, appropriate local expressions and appreciate local customs. My experience with LTL could not have been better!
Great school with amazing teachers! I have only been here for 6 weeks but under this time I’ve learnt more chinese than I did in one year in Sweden. The people working here are the most friendly people you can find so you never feel alone. If you have any questions or wanna change anything, there will always be people there to help. I am gonna miss this place so bad when I go back in two weeks.
I spent 3 weeks at LTL with 4 hours of group classes everyday. I have done 2 semesters of language classes at my university in Germany before. The classes were really good and my two teachers highly motivated. Another big effect was my homestay family. My speaking and listening abilities improved dramatically in these 3 weeks. LTL is a great community and offers help and activities throughout your stay. Full recommendation!

I am currently taking part in a programme of the school in Beijing, so I would like to give a brief feedback on the overall situation. The school as such is fascinating well organized. The service of a-z is not only smooth and comfortable, but at the same time friendly and highly qualified. The quality of teaching is unbeatable. Both 1 on 1 classes and group lessons are rich and incredibly well structured, so that you can make an incredible amount of progress in the shortest possible time. I was amazed how much Chinese I could actually learn in two weeks, and how much self-confidence and help the teachers and the entire team of ltl school show me.
I would like to thank every single person in the school team for this. You have been able to fulfil me with lots of love and happiness over the past few weeks, and I have made such gifts, both professionally and personally, which I have not experienced in any other place in the world in this form. Be it the host family or the pick-up at the airport, everything – everything – went smoothly and with a smile on the lips of the team of the school.
Thank you thank you and a huge recommendation to anyone who has interest in the Chinese language. 5 Stars and if possible still a heart to it!
I spent 2 weeks learning Mandarin at LTL. In total, I took 6 hours of class per day: 4 hours of group class and 2 hours of 1-on-1. My group class only had two people which meant that I practically had 6 hours of speaking practice per day.
I attended a three-week programme in Beijing at LTL and I highly recommend it. The classrooms are pretty small (4-5 students) and teachers are really nice. The students can choose individual classes or HSK preparation courses.
I really recommend this language school. This school offers group & private chinese lessons, and activities like trips to the great wall or sightseeing in Beijing. The staff and students are so nice and friendly. I'm feeling so comfortable there.
The school caters for all ages and abilities. It's a colourful, sociable space that provides exactly the sort of relaxed atmosphere to allow anyone to thrive in their studies. I felt very much at home. Please do go and experience it for yourself!
I landed in Beijing with no previous knowledge of the language, and then struggled with daily communication for the next three months before discovering LTL. I signed up for individual lessons and they have been perfect.
On a friend's recommendation I tried Live The Language. Location is perfect - near the Central Business District downtown. My teachers have been fantastic. The school offers an environment that encourages learning (and speaking!)
I spent 2 weeks learning Mandarin at LTL. In total, I took 6 hours of class per day: 4 hours of group class and 2 hours of 1-on-1. My group class only had two people which meant that I practically had 6 hours of speaking practice per day. It was great!! In the two weeks I was there, my reading, writing, and speaking improved significantly. Since I had already briefly studied Mandarin Chinese several years ago, they placed me in an advanced beginner class. I was very impressed with the level of instruction and I am happy with how far my level improved in just two short weeks.
Alex, Dannie, and the whole team of teachers at LTL were very helpful and were happy to accommodate any requests or questions I had both during the registration process and once I arrived at the school. I also really love the community feel of LTL. The other students were so welcoming and I enjoyed participating in the group activities organized by the school. LTL really feels like a family and I will be sure to visit everyone during my next trip to China!
I attended a three-week programme in Beijing at LTL and I highly recommend it. The classrooms are pretty small (4-5 students) and teachers are really nice. However, the students can choose even individual classes or HSK preparation courses. LTL teachers are Chinese but they are fluent in english as well, in case you need some help especially at the beginning. During my programme I had two teachers: Jacqueline for speaking and writing and Linda for grammar and listening.
My classmates were from all over the world (Europe, Asia and US): some were young students interested in Chinese and some were experienced professionals who deal with Chinese partners. In addition, LTL staff is very friendly and they help the students in the daily life in China (accommodation, trips etc.). Personally, I recommend LTL because this school provides the right environment to learn Chinese.
I really recommend this language school. This school offers group & private chinese lessons, and activities like trips to the great wall or sightseeing in Beijing. The staff and students are so nice and friendly. I’m feeling so comfortable there. The lessons are awesome. This is how it should be in my opinion. Speaking classes one day and the next day Chinese character writing. Just finished my 2nd course there and will return soon. A big highlight is the rooftop, especially in summer it’s nice to sit and talking with others, also very nice, at lunch time, staff orders Chinese food and we can all have lunch together and share the food.
I only had time for 1 week at LTL Language School but I’ll definitely be going back. I learnt so much more in my 1 week there than I had done in 2 terms of lessons in the UK. Every student is allocated two teachers to ensure that they benefit from a range of teaching styles, and both my teachers were excellent and very creative with their lessons. As well as learning loads, I got to partake in the lively student community fostered by the school (and in particular, the Student Advisor, Bethan) and in only one week, I felt very much at home. There are numerous opportunities to go and explore Beijing with the other students and teachers. One particularly memorable night saw the group eat a delicious hotpot meal, witness Bian Lian (Sichuan Opera Face-Changing ), have our noodles made by a noodle dancer and even try out a bit of Salsa dancing in a Latin American Bar. The school caters for all ages and abilities. It’s a colourful, sociable space that provides exactly the sort of relaxed atmosphere to allow anyone to thrive in their studies. Please do go and experience it for yourself!
I landed in Beijing with no previous knowledge of the language, and then struggled with daily communication for the next three months before discovering LTL. I signed up for individual lessons and they have been perfect. They understood my level and need for flexibility. My teacher has adapted around my interests and daily needs – eating out, travelling, tourism etc. It’s made a massive difference to my stay here.
Wendy Bellone made the move with her three children to come to China and study Chinese with LTL Mandarin School. The experience proved to be a once in a lifetime experience for the family. Follow their story and their progress with learning Mandarin as a family and living in China.
Anthea joined LTL as a Chinese rookie but left passing the HSK 6 exam. She enjoyed almost a year in Shanghai, Beijing and Chengde as she studied Mandarin throughout China. Anthea made excellent progress on her way to fluency and you can check out her story in this video interview.
I have been studying at LTL for 10 weeks and I absolutely love it here. The teachers are great and the student community is a ton of fun. I started out not knowing any Chinese and have made a ton of progress. I have made a ton of friends.
I was a student at Live the Language Mandarin School in Beijing for about ten months before spending another two months doing their immersion program in Chengde. I honestly believe that there is no better place or way to learn Mandarin.
Before arriving in China, LTL was very communicative. If you wish to come to China to study Mandarin (either as someone completely new to Chinese, or as someone who already has some knowledge), I highly recommend LTL.
I would highly recommend LTL for the true immersion experience. I spent 2 weeks in Beijing and 3 weeks in Chengde; I lived with host families in both places, and had intensive 6 hours of classes every day. It was absolutely worth it!
Having now spent 6 weeks at LTL, I would happily recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of social events to meet people and see the city. The staff are super friendly and the teachers are really professional.
I spend two weeks in the LTL School in Beijing, during the "live and teach" programme. My teachers were really good, and I enjoyed their different teaching styles. I would definitely recommend ltl if you are prepared to study and work hard. :)
I have been studying at LTL for 10 weeks and I absolutely love it here. The teachers are great and the student community is a ton of fun. I started out not knowing any Chinese and have made a ton of progress. I can carry on basic conversations and write funny stories in Chinese. I have made a ton of friends through the school and they have made my time in Shanghai awesome! I highly recommend LTL for anyone looking to study Chinese in Shanghai!
I was a student at Live the Language Mandarin School in Beijing for about ten months before spending another two months doing their immersion program in Chengde.
During my time in China I took both group and individual classes, lived with homestay families and on my own and took part in several trips and activities organized by the school. I basically experienced everything LTL offers and absolutely recommend it to everyone interested in learning Mandarin! The school is located conveniently and provides a perfect atmosphere for learning, since there are usually only around 5-6 people per group class, sometimes even fewer. Also, classrooms are bright and comfortable.
I was taught by at least 4-5 different teachers in Beijing, and another one in Chengde. While they have different teaching styles, they are without exception excellent at what they do. All of them, as well as the staff of LTL are always helpful and motivated. I did not speak a word of Mandarin before studying at LTL, in the end I passed the HSK 5 exam (Level C1) with a pretty high score. I met or know of several other people who made similar progress which really shows the high quality of the school. I also want to encourage everybody to spend some time in Chengde. Living in a “small” city where foreigners are a rare sight and people generally do not speak English had a huge impact on my speaking skills. I made friends with locals easily by joining a football team. On top of that, my host mom was amazing. All of that helped improve my Chinese so much and I still stay in touch with friends that I have made there.
Besides the classes and immersion possibilities, some of my best memories in China are the regular school dinners and trips. You get to try different kinds of restaurants with great people. The trips I have been on include a regular one to a not fully restored part of the Great Wall where you get to enjoy it without any tourists around. Another one that really stands out was the school trip to Xian. We visited the famous Terracotta Army and had a great time sightseeing in general.
I honestly believe that there is no better place or way to learn Mandarin.
I was a student at the Shanghai school for a little over two months and learned so much in that short of a time. The teachers were very knowledgeable and worked hard to make sure students understood the material. Every week we went together to various restaurants and places of cultural significance experienced many difference types of food. These weekly activities were also good opportunities to practice Chinese and learn about Chinese culture. I stayed in a shared apartment which was very good and spacious. I had roommates from all over the world as well. Before arriving in China, LTL was very communicative and answered any questions I had in a prompt and informative manner. Before arriving they also sent many documents that were helpful in explaining necessary procedures and the process of getting settled in. In conclusion, if you wish to come to China to study Mandarin (either as someone completely new to Chinese, or as someone who already has some Chinese knowledge), I highly recommend LTL.
I would highly recommend LTL for the true immersion experience. I spent 2 weeks in Beijing and 3 weeks in Chengde; I lived with host families in both places, and had intensive 6 hours of classes every day. It was tough and overwhelming, but absolutely worth it! Before coming to LTL, I had been studying Mandarin for 3 years (on and off), but could not really speak and could not read any characters. Sometime in the middle of my second week I surprised my host family with conversation, and by week 4 I could read ~300+ characters. In week 5 I was retelling fairy tales and watching TV drama with my host family! The teachers were wonderful and really believed in my ability even when I doubted it. I also really liked the flexibility: my program was adjusted to my different levels in speaking/ grammar/ reading (characters). And the coordinators went above and beyond: In Chengde they organized Chinese calligraphy and ink painting classes for me, in addition to my Mandarin classes. I am really looking forward to my next vacation to be able to spend 2 more weeks with LTL!
Having now spent 6 weeks at LTL, I would happily recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of social events to meet people and see the city. The staff are super friendly and the teachers are really professional. The place to learn mandarin in Beijing!
I spend two weeks in the ltl school in Bejing, during the “live and teach” programme. I lived with a warm Chinese family close metro line 7. My school day was from 10-17, with two parts group classes one part 1 and 1 classes. Before the arrival I had done some Skype interviews, and I was placed in a class which fit my level really good. My teachers were really good, and I enjoyed their different teaching styles. It was amazing feeling my Chinese level improve so fast. I have had bad experiences with Chinese courses before, that’s why I only chose two weeks, but I deeply regretted, that I had to leave just when I could feel my improvements. I would definitely recommend ltl if you are prepared to study and work hard. 🙂
The airport pick-up, provided by the school, was there on time, and took me directly to my homestay family. The homestay experience allows you to really get the Chinese culture under your skin. The best thing about LTL is the staff.
The teachers at LTL are superb. They carefully explain the intricate nuances of the Chinese language - tonal pronunciation, sentence structures, grammatical rules, character writing - all the skills necessary to succeed in Chinese.
LTL provided excellent support right from the first contact with the school until the end of the programme. I enjoyed the fact that the course was challenging and that I also learned much about China today. I had two great teachers.
The experience of studying at LTL in Beijing was great. From the first contact with the school advisor till the last day, the LTL team gave me a huge support, even for activities not related to the school, like booking a taxi to take me to Great Wall.
For the 3 weeks of mandarin course, I was glad everything turned out epic. I got super skilled teachers teaching me, helping me to be prepared for my HSK test. The learning materials are sufficient for me to study for the test.
I stayed with a homestay family, they are so kind people, let me participate in their everyday life, let me taste any kinds of great Chinese food, take me to see the place they live. The schedule at school is tight, but the faster the progress is.
I have just completed my 3-week program at LTL Shanghai, and it has been fantastic. I am studying Chinese at my university in Copenhagen, and did this to maintain my Chinese level during summer vacation. From the moment I arrived in Shanghai airport (my 1st time in China) everything went smooth. The airport pick-up, provided by the school, was there on time, and took me directly to my homestay family. The homestay experience is optional, but was very interesting and allows you to really get the chinese culture under your skin. And of cause, it is the best way to improve your oral chinese. The school is located in one of the most cool areas of Shanghai, and there are plenty of good restaurants, shops and bars nearby. But the best thing about LTL is the staff. They are so welcoming and friendly, and right away you’ll feel like a part of the LTL family. They plan weekly events such as; dinners at various chinese restaurents, trips to cultural sites and karaoke nights etc. for both students and teachers which gives this a really cool social environment, that i have never experienced between teachers and students. Besides they are all really skillfull, in what ever part of the chinese language that you want to practice. I have probably learnt more here in these 3 weeks, than i would in months back home. I will miss this place very much, but hopefully i will come back again and again. And so should you. I can not recommend this place any higher.
I have studied foreign languages abroad at schools in France, Italy, Brazil and Korea. I can say without a doubt that LTL is the best language school I have ever attended. From the very first moment you step inside the school, the administration makes you feel welcome and right at home. They go to great lengths to ensure your transition to Shanghai is a smooth one. The teachers at LTL are superb. They carefully explain the intricate nuances of the Chinese language – tonal pronunciation, sentence structures, grammatical rules, character writing – all the skills necessary to succeed in Chinese. But much more than that, the teachers are very friendly, approachable and always happy to help. There is always something going on at school – LTL plans daily lunches in the neighborhood, weekly dinners, karaoke, weekend visits to interesting cultural sites within Shanghai or trips to other nearby cities (e.g. Suzhou, Nanjing). With so much going on, it is common to see students just hang around for a few hours after class has ended. LTL puts so much thought and care into everything it does that it does feel like a family away from home, regardless whether you are here for one week, one month or one year. I wholeheartedly recommend the school to others who are considering studying Chinese in Shanghai.
LTL provided excellent support right from the first contact with the school until the end of the programme. Someone always answered my questions immediately, even when they weren’t urgent queries.
I had two great teachers for my one-on-one classes and the topics we covered in class were exactly those that I was interested in and my vocabulary expanded during the 6 weeks. I had good opportunities to improve speaking fluency and have grammar and pronunciation problems corrected. I enjoyed the fact that the course was challenging and that I also learned much about China today.
I opted for the serviced apartment accommodation. The living quarters were sunny and the area nice and quiet. There were many food options locally. For anyone thinking about this option, you need to remember that the standard of cleanliness may not be what you are used to at home. However, my landlady responded to any calls immediately. My time at LTL was very positive. I thought it was a little expensive, but on the other hand, it was money well spent.
The experience of studying at LTL in Beijing was great. From the first contact with the school advisor till the last day, the LTL team gave me a huge support, even for activities not related to the school, like booking a taxi to take me to Great Wall and other things. Homestay was really convenient, about 30 min from school, and all of them were very kind to me, especially at Chinese New Year. The school also provides some weekly activities, which is a nice way to know other students and have some fun. And finally the most important point, was the huge increase on my mandarin skills in only one month. 1 on 1 classes were awesome, once I was free to choose the way and the speed of learning.
For the 3 weeks of mandarin course, I was glad everything turned out epic. I got super skilled teachers teaching me, helping me to be prepared for my HSK test. The learning materials are sufficient for me to study for the test. The teachers’ soul focus never leave me either. The environment of the school is welcoming thanks to the teachers and staff being super friendly and widely open minded. Large diversity of people attended the school so I was lucky enough to meet some great people. Every week, there would be a small get together which is fun to bond with the other students. Overall, I got more than what I bargained for, which keep me wishing I don’t have to leave that school. Because it felt just like home.
Coming to Beijing in the coldest month of the year seems to be a bad idea? Spending Christmas and New Year in China doesn’t have your homeplace’s atmosphere? Not at all! I went to Beijing in December and January to study Chinese at LTL Mandarin School. It’s an unforgettable experience. From the first day you arrive you get into Beijing’s everyday life.
I stayed with a homestay family, they are so kind people, let me participate in their everyday life, let me taste any kinds of great Chinese food, take me to see the place they live. The schedule at school is tight, but the faster the progress is. Everyday when talking to Chinese people I felt that I could apply the things we leart in class. The teachers here are very enthusiastic and you can choose your speed and way of learning. If you want to boost your Chinese from a very basic level to fluent everyday conversations, as I did during the time here, experience Beijing’s great lively atmosphere and make friends with people from all over the world, just try it out!
